Dr. Rebecca Shields is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in glaucoma and cataract surgery. Dr. Shields has expertise in laser-assisted cataract surgery, premium intraocular lens implantation, and in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma, including laser and incisional surgery. She is trained in the most advanced techniques of minimally-invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS).
Dr. Shields completed her undergraduate premedical studies at Johns Hopkins University, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Public Health with University honors. She earned her medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where she was inducted into the National Medical Honor Society, Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA). Dr. Shields continued her training by completing her ophthalmology residency at one of the nation’s premier eye hospitals, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, FL. She then completed her glaucoma fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute.
Dr. Shields has presented at numerous national and international conferences. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Glaucoma Society, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. She is dedicated to providing excellent care to her patients.
