During Your Visit

Here is what you can expect at your retina consultation with Dr. Tsong.

Dilated Eye Examination

Eye drops will be used to dilate (enlarge) your pupils for a thorough examination of the back of the eye. The drops last 3–4 hours and make your eyes light-sensitive. We recommend arranging for someone to drive you home.

OCT Imaging

Optical Coherence Tomography is a non-invasive camera that takes high-definition digital pictures of your retina using harmless light rays. This breakthrough technology detects subtle problems invisible to the naked eye.

Fluorescein Angiography

A special non-toxic dye is injected into your arm, and photographs are taken as the dye passes through retinal blood vessels. This test is extremely helpful for identifying abnormalities in diseases that affect blood flow to the eye.

How to Prepare

A little preparation helps make your consultation as smooth and efficient as possible.

Allow approximately 2 hours for your visit
Arrange for a friend or family member to drive you home
Bring sunglasses for after your visit (or we will provide a pair)
Bring a book or activity in case of wait time (free Wi-Fi available)
