Professional Excellence
Dr. Shields earned her Bachelor of Arts in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University, graduating with University honors. She received her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society. After completing a transitional year internship at Flushing Hospital Medical Center, she pursued ophthalmology residency training at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida, one of the nation's premier eye hospitals. She then refined her subspecialty expertise through a glaucoma fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute in Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. Shields brings this advanced training directly to every patient interaction. She takes a thorough, individualized approach to developing treatment plans, whether she is managing a complex glaucoma case or guiding a patient through cataract surgery. Her goal is always the same: to protect long-term vision, maintain eye health, and give every patient the confidence that they are receiving the highest level of care.
I chose to specialize in glaucoma and cataract surgery because protecting someone's vision is one of the most meaningful things I can do as a physician. My approach is built on partnership with my patients, taking the time to understand their concerns and creating a treatment plan that gives them the best possible outcome.
